For You Muslim Sisters 💐🌹

Bismillah

There are around 1.9 billion Muslims in the world. From that number, the Muslim population spread throughout the world should implement Islamic teachings correctly. One of them is in the use of hijab for Muslim women according to Islamic law or guidance.

It's sad that there are still many Muslim women who are not aware and understand the concept of hijab, so they do not wear the hijab correctly and according to Islamic teachings. This may be because knowledge has not reached them, or the environment does not allow the knowledge to reach them. If only they knew how great God's love and affection for them with His extraordinary care.

Hijab is an Arabic word which means cover or barrier. So the meaning of hijab is a woman's beauty cover so that they are safe from people who do not have the right to her (the popular term is non-mahram or not mahram) both when leaving the house or when there are people who are not mahram in the house (for example guests or package delivery). That is Allah's love for Muslim women with extraordinary protection, because of their beautiful physical and bodily bodies. How does Islam regulate this hijab?

The way to cover the beauty of a Muslim woman is by wearing a hijab, this is clearly and explicitly ordered by Allah in the Qur'an. Here are some verses of the Qur'an that discuss the obligation to wear a hijab or jilbab:
  • Verse 59 of Surah Al-Ahzab:
"O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful."

  • Verse 31 of Surah An-Nur:
"And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment..."

  • Verse 26 of Surah Al-A'raf:
"O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best."

These verses emphasize the importance of covering the private parts and maintaining modesty for Muslim women. Wearing a hijab or headscarf is part of obedience to Allah and is a symbol of nobility for women. So there is no longer any reason to delay this command of Allah.

The hijab is essentially a loose cloth that covers a woman's private parts from the top of the head/hair, body, arms, back of the hands, to the feet, so that only the palms of the hands and face are visible. Even as a form of greater caution, you can cover your face with a veil or niqab.

So if explained in more detail, the hijab consists of:
  1. Loose clothing (not thin, see-through/transparent, not tight/shaping the curves of the body, not brightly colored, not patterned and not containing many ornaments) that covers the body from the shoulders, chest, arms to the feet.
  2. Hijab, head covering in the form of a cloth that is not thin that covers the hair and head, extending to cover the chest and shoulders perfectly. And if we tie our hair or wear an undergarment when wearing a hijab, don't make it too clumpy or protruding so that it looks like a camel's hump. This is forbidden in Islam, because there is a hadith narrated by Muslim which explains that a woman who wears a hijab but looks like a camel's hump will not enter heaven.
  3. Socks, because the feet are also part of the aurat that must be covered. The color of the socks is better dark without a pattern so that it does not attract people's attention. The length can be adjusted so that the entire leg will not be visible if the leg is lifted or stepped. This is also to prevent spots/burned skin on the legs in hot weather.
  4. Inner trousers or pants which are usually called leggings. Leggings or inner trousers are actually worn so that Muslim women are more comfortable and safe when the skirt is lifted.
  5. Gloves or handsocks that cover the entire hand or just the back of the hand. because the back of a woman's hand is also a beauty that should be covered. This is also useful for preventing spots/burnt skin from the hands in hot weather.

That was the explanation about the hijab that Allah ordered to wear, so there is no longer a mindset of "veiling the heart first then wearing a real hijab", or "it is better not to wear a hijab but behave well than wearing a hijab but like to gossip". And we should also start to reflect on our intentions in dressing, namely to get Allah's approval by wearing clothes according to the Shari'a. Where it is useful to protect ourselves from the eyes of men who are not mahram. From a health perspective, wearing a hijab can also reduce the risk of skin cancer, because it can protect hair and skin from direct exposure to sunlight and dirty air.

That concludes the discussion about the hijab this time, thank you for reading until the end. Hopefully This reading is useful for Muslim women who are still not moved about how important it is to cover their bodies. Or there are those who already know but pretend not to know with the excuse of 'no guidance'. Know that guidance is not only awaited but also received.

So, which one do you choose? Following the world's fashion trends that will never end but you do not get His approval? or dressing according to Allah's command so that every step you take is always approved and blessed by Him?
