Rambut Monte Lake, Selorejo Reservoir (East Java)

Bismillah

Rambut Monte Lake is a tourist attraction in the form of a lake with a spring below it. The spring and the water around it have different colors that make this place look amazing. Rambut Monte is located in Blitar Regency, precisely in Krisik Village, Gandusari District, East Java. Departing from Malang City, to go to this tourist spot the route is: Malang - Batu - Pujon - Selorejo Reservoir Intersection. After preparing all kinds of equipment to support the trip last night, on the morning of December 15, 2013 we (me and 3 of my friends) departed from Malang City towards Batu City.

The trip to Batu City was busy and smooth because it was Saturday so the roads were quite busy, but we were still able to drive at that time. After passing Batu City we passed the extreme winding roads in Pujon, which made all drivers have to be extra careful when passing through it. For me, this was my first experience driving through this road using a motorbike, because usually I take the Puspa Indah bus to Kandangan, Kediri.

Passing Pujon, we continued straight towards Ngantang, then arrived at the T-junction between Wlingi, Blitar and Selorejo Reservoir. After turning left towards Wlingi, we continued our journey until we met a sign that said RAMBUT MONTE. From Batu to Rambut Monte, we did not reach Wlingi. At the reservoir T-junction, there was a sign saying 'Wlingi 27 km', while our destination, Krisik Village, was only about 8 km from there. From the Selorejo Reservoir T-junction to Rambut Monte Lake, it took half an hour. The road to Rambut Monte is quite bumpy, so motorcycle riders are expected to be careful when driving.

After arriving at our destination, we entered by paying an entrance ticket of IDR 3,000 per person and a motorbike parking fee of IDR 1,000. This lake is located on a lower plain than the parking lot, so we had to go down the stairs first to reach the lake. The view of this lake is very natural and beautiful. Surrounded by tropical rainforest with its striking green color, the condition of the towering old trees with their mosses makes this place even more exotic. And of course the highlight of this lake is the blue spring in the middle of the lake.

At the end of the lake near the blue water source there is a kind of hut that can be stopped to see the spring in the lake more closely. The light rain adds to the mystical atmosphere of this lake. There are traces of atomic nuts pooling in the lake from visitors who threw them to the fish in the lake.

After about 2 hours of being satisfied looking at and capturing pictures of the lake from the hut, we finally decided to get out of there and head to the next destination: Selorejo Reservoir. And that's where we planned to have lunch, because our stomachs were already quite rumbling. The journey home was accompanied by drizzle and views of a row of cool and beautiful mountains.

Selorejo Reservoir

Upon arrival at Selorejo Reservoir, we were required to buy an entrance ticket of IDR 12,500 and a parking fee that I forgot the amount. The tourist area of this reservoir is very large and very crowded with visitors, many large tourist buses and also private cars. When we arrived, we immediately looked for a food stall, because we hadn't eaten at Rambut Monte Lake. With the many food stalls in this reservoir, we finally chose a food stall in an area at the edge of a cliff with a river below it.

The food menu at the stall includes fish, shrimp and chicken. There was one name on the menu that I had never eaten before, namely wader fish. Finally, I ordered fried wader fish with vegetables. It turned out that eating wader fish with chili sauce while looking at the beautiful view of the reservoir was incredibly delicious. Supported by the cold and cool weather and the beautiful atmosphere, it made the feeling of tiredness and fatigue disappear instantly. From here you can also see a fairly long suspension bridge that connects visitors to the bathing area and swimming pool.

After eating, we took a short break to pray and go to the toilet. From there we agreed to rent a boat to go around the Selorejo reservoir for IDR 40,000, so because there were four of us, we chipped in IDR 10,000 per person. The boat was quite large, maybe it could accommodate around 10 people, but because at that time there were only four of us, we were the only ones on the boat.

The natural conditions there were cool, there was no sunlight, the mountains in the distance were covered by fog and clouds, making the atmosphere serene. The boat cut through the calm reservoir water, and from a distance several small boats were visible. The cool and clean air and the rows of mountains stretching before our eyes made the mind relaxed and peaceful. The boat trip was not too long, because we chose the cheapest package, so it only took about 15 minutes.

After getting off the boat, from there we were curious about the long suspension bridge. Upon arriving at the bridge, there was a regulation prohibiting more than 10 people on the bridge, and it was also forbidden to stay on the bridge. Finally, after crossing the bridge, we returned to the end of the bridge because we did not enter the bathing/pool tourist area. After that we decided to leave the Selorejo Reservoir tourist area because it was already afternoon and we returned home to Malang.

The journey home was accompanied by heavy rain, we who had prepared raincoats from the beginning stopped on the side of the road and put on our respective raincoats. The winding up and down road terrain in the Pujon area made me ride my motorbike very carefully. Initially we planned to go home via the Paralayang shortcut, but because of the rain and slippery roads we ended up going through the Pujon road like when we left this morning. Arriving in Batu City we were greeted with a fairly long traffic jam. With the skill of overtaking left and right, thank God at around 5 pm we arrived in Malang safely without missing a single thing.

This trip was very fun, exciting, and unforgettable. Rambut Monte Lake is a must-visit tourist spot when you are in East Java. From there it is also recommended to visit the Selorejo Reservoir because the view at this reservoir is very beautiful. For those of you who are traveling with a large family group, this reservoir is also suitable to visit becauset the tourist area and parking are quite large.
