Job Application Strategy
Bismillah
I will tell you about my experience attending a seminar held by one of the university in Malang. The seminar was titled Strategy in Applying for a Job. Here are the key points that I summarized from the seminar.
Worker Type
We can find out what type of worker we are, namely:
- Managerial type: the type of worker who has motives for power, influence, control, competence, managerial and leadership. This is the type of worker who wants to be a leader,
- Generalist type: the type of worker who has motives for professional career development and self-development. This type prefers to seek experience in many sectors to develop potential,
- Specialist type: the type of worker who has motives for increasing expertise, for example in the field of education,
- Entrepreneurial type: the type of worker who has motives for routinely changing types of work.
Curriculum Vitae or CV
Technically, a good CV is as follows:
- A CV is written in a maximum of 2 pages, the data must be accurate and correct with good and positive language,
- First write your name, telephone number, email, residential address, last place of education (if it is a college level, write your GPA),
- Include a formal photo with a red background,
- Write your skills, experience, and career history,
- Write your organization experience,
- Do a reading test: ask 3 colleagues to read our CV, if our colleagues are clear in reading it, it means the CV is good and ready to be used.
Written test
The keys to a successful written test are:
- Get enough sleep the night before the test,
- Have breakfast before leaving (if the test is held in the morning),
- Listen carefully and follow all instructions for working on the questions carefully,
- Think quickly, seriously, but relaxed, so that all questions can be answered well and correctly.
Appearance during the interview process
- Clothing: simple hijab (do not wrap it around), neutral colored shirt/blazer, skirt or pants made of dark colored fabric. Clothing must be clean, not wrinkled or dull,
- Clean leather shoes (it is better not to wear rubber or canvas/cloth shoes). Standard shoe heel 1.5 cm,
- Nails, skin, and teeth must be clean,
- Neat hair: for men it should be a short style, for women if the hair is long past the shoulders it should be tied neatly,
- Use light make up, don't be too heavy,
- Sit up straight and don't slouch
- Look at the interviewer's face, don't look down,
- Walk relaxed, straight and dignified, don't walk with your feet dragged.
Tips for a successful interview
- Try not to be late
- Good and neat appearance,
- Give a friendly smile to the interviewer,
- Relax and don't be too stiff/tense,
- Focus and use effective sentences,
- Answer all questions with confidence.
So that's all I can say, hopefully it can be a provision for those of you who are applying for a job. Thank you to the organizers of this seminar for the very useful tips and information.
